 The 30k Foot View

I am a coach. I have a coach. My coach has a coach.

Growing Up Nick

The oldest of five children, four of which are boys, home life was full of love, busy, competitive, and chaotic. I loved having a big family and was proud of it. Born in Detroit in 1981, I was 8 before the family moved to Philadelphia where my father was transferred for his job.

My brothers and I were highly competitive and played every sport under the sun eventually settling on wrestling as our sole focus. We drove each other crazy but through the process made each other better. We learned early on the importance of discipline and what it required to reach the highest levels of the sport. Wrestling taught me a lot about personal responsibility early on in life. There wasn’t many else to blame for a loss but yourself. It also taught me a great deal about failure. I had to deal with failures and learn from them rather than turn away from them if I wanted to get better.

After what felt like a lifetime of the sport and a host of injuries trailing behind me, I hung up my shoes in College and had a traditional college experience (which really means chasing girls, drinking too much, and slacking off). It was a break from that life of discipline and dedication and it was attractive.

After getting my degree I took a leap and moved from the East coast out to San Diego to experience something new. After 16 years it’s become my home I love and adore but the path to today wasn’t a walk in the park. Multiple lay-offs, a failed business, a divorce, a host of failed startups, odd jobs, I stayed the course and continued to march on. It was through these failures, heart aches, disappointment, and regret that ultimately guided me towards learning and development of my why, my purpose. Without all of that hardship, failure, and struggle I wouldn’t have the perspective I have today. I wouldn’t have the gratitude I continue to cultivate on a daily basis. It’s through the fire that we can be reborn.

My Why

I have sat where you sit. I have built and grown teams, launched multi-million dollar software products, owned companies but of everything I have done in my career nothing has fulfilled my purpose than serving others. I took the long way around realizing this rather simple and practical fact about myself.

I spent a great deal of my life in suffering. I set unreachable expectations on myself, cared entirely too much of others opinions, lacked self worth and confidence, and struggled with addiction. I wasn’t taking responsibility for my life. I wanted everyone else to do it for me. A far cry from the discipline, dedication, and determination of that younger version of myself.

When I started to ask myself the tough questions and took concrete steps to make changes in my life I grew confidence and purpose. When I stopped lying to myself, truly being honest, I knew what needed to change. I realized my biggest enemy was the story I was telling myself. It was my set of underlying beliefs and assumptions about myself and the world around me. It was the patterns of behavior and my coping mechanisms all previous unconscious to me. I began to learn who I really was and what I’m put here to do. It’s to continue to build the best version of myself while serving others powerfully. It wasn’t until I decided to challenge my own thinking and surrender to what I felt was, “my way” that I began to broaden my world view and begin creating this life of purpose and joy I get to experience today.

Who I Serve

Today, I work with people like me, driven, empathetic, high performing individuals who are looking to challenge their own way of thinking to expand the horizon of possibilities. Those that want to create a life beyond their wildest dreams.

I work with anyone wanting more from their work and their life and ready to shift into action. My clients consist of persons in recovery, mid-level managers looking to grow, and executives figuring out their next move. If you fit that description and have a desire to experience a life beyond your wildest dreams, let’s talk.

My dream is to add value to the world, promote love and understanding, and help others find connection and wholeness in their lives.

The Really Important Stuff

I am eternally grateful for the life I have today. I am a son to loving parents, a brother to supportive siblings, and an uncle to three of the cutest nieces and nephews I’ve ever seen. Last but not least, I am blessed and honored to have one of the kindest, caring, and most beautiful women in the world by my side always supporting me. Together, we have a small cat named Shadow and live in a sleepy beach town in southern San Diego, California. I am grateful for all of the gifts and the setbacks, they both have brought me to now…and now is pretty ok with me.

 My Approach

I believe that anyone can achieve happiness, freedom, joy and live a life of purpose and intention. The problem for so many of us is we are caught up in the stories we tell and the melodrama of our daily lives. We remain unconscious to our set of underlying beliefs and assumptions about not just ourselves but the world. .

I take an ontological approach to my work with you in an effort to challenge your thinking and expand the horizon of possibilities available to you. I focus on helping clients understand and improve how they show up in the world.

Ontology assumes that individuals have a set of underlying beliefs and assumptions about themselves and the world around them, which influence their actions and behaviors. By examining and challenging these beliefs and assumptions, I aim to help my clients make positive changes in their lives and achieve their goals.
